Airline Food - Get It Into You!

The challenge with cheap international flights is that the convenient low cost fares come hand in hand with airline food that's barely going to keep you from starving. OK, so it's not always that bad. But there's definitely a lesson to be learned from eating while you're miles up!

Actually though, many flights don't serve you the full 4 course meal - instead handing out a bag of nuts or crackers, and a small drink. Unless of course you're in first class, it's likely that you'll be faced with eating a snack meal. And if you're on a long budget flight, this might not be enough. So what do you do?

Well, there's a few choices. Firstly you can eat before you catch your flight - but this still might not resolve those long haul hunger pains. So, ideally it's probably wise to carry on board your own healthy snack meal so you can dig into it anytime you need.

The other things you can take on board are dried fruit or trail mix as you might know it. This is a great way to eat healthily and not take in too much sugar or sweeteners at the same time. Look for the organic or natural based brands that use a lot of dried fruit or cashew nuts. You can eat this stuff to your heart's content and not worry about gaining weight or feeling bloated!

Also make sure you bring a bottle of water. You don't need to gulp it all down but you can sip throughout the flight when you feel thirsty. You can often feel dehydrated sitting way up there at cruising altitude, so having your own water is a godsend.

You can also take with you bagels or croissants, or even a sandwich made at an airport bakery or cafe. You'll enjoy this immensely when you've been in the air for 3 hours and you're starting to get little tinglings of hunger in your stomach.

So, you obviously don't need to eat the airline food - you can eat your own healthy snacks and drink your own water or juice. It's simply a matter of preparing beforehand, and making a purchase before you board. Snacks can also help you avoid air sickness (so I'm told!)

Just remember that being hungry sort of makes everything even more uncomfortable. And airlines aren't exactly laid out like that huge sofa in your local coffee shop, so you really want to be as comfortable as possible. Bringing your own airline food will help this immensely.
