Are you all set and ready to start your amazing Thailand holidays adventure? Brace yourself for the myriad of places that you can explore in the Kingdom of Siam...
With over 500,000 square kilometers of land area, Thailand excites the adventurous traveler's wanderlust and tempts his curiosity. While walking on foot to explore the city's inner grounds and innumerable shopping stalls is a good way to start getting acquainted with Thailand, there are other enjoyable options in getting around and getting a slice of the Thai life.
For starters, hop into a tuktuk! But what is a tuktuk in the first place? A tuktuk is a three-wheeled hybrid of a motorcycle and a taxi which can seat several passengers. This mode of transport is popular to the locals as well as the tourists, and often regarded as a symbol of Thai culture. It is also a cheaper alternative to the taxi cabs who charge by the meter.
Hire a tuktuk to take you through narrow alleys to avoid the heavy traffic on major roads. Take note that the tuktuk has no air conditioning because it is an open-air vehicle. As you ride in the back of the tuktuk, be ready to acquaint yourself with the sights and smells of Thailand's street life as you pass by!
If you want to enjoy Thailand's balmy air and lights at night, then head to the docks and join a dinner cruise aboard a yacht. Treat yourself to a sumptuous buffet and enjoy dinner by candlelight on the deck. If you're the introvert type, you can find a quiet corner where you can relax as the yacht cruises along the river.
However, if you are in the mood to party and meet new friends, then you are most welcome to dance the night away on deck! Feel the pulse of the music, and shake your body as you dance to the beat. It's a great way to burn the calories too!
Think you've had enough of where you currently are but you're not ready to go back home yet? If your travel budget allows, try to visit other places and points of interest in Thailand while you're there. If you've explored Bangkok already, maybe you want to head up north to Chiang Mai and see the differences in culture or scenery?
Get a cheap airline ticket directly from the local carriers' ticket offices or websites, or you can contact any of the various local travel agencies and tour operators in the country. You might think that air travel from one domestic point to another is more expensive than the other modes of transportation, but it's the quickest and most comfortable way to go. Since time is precious and should not be wasted, a cheap domestic airline ticket is definitely worth the investment.
And for my final note, I must say that do not miss an elephant ride! Despite their enormous size, these creatures are incredibly gentle in nature (or have been trained to be). There's nothing really special about the ride itself, but getting in and out of an elephant's back is an experience worth trying! Also, elephants have long been associated with Thai culture, so don't forget to have your picture taken with the elephant (and the elephant trainer as well) as a souvenir!
