Thailand Weather

Most of Thailand has a wet and dry tropical climate, while the South has a tropical monsoon climate. In other words, when it rains, it hammers down - and when it shines, it's perfect! Unless you're in the mountains far North, you'll be wearing the bare necessities - shorts and t-shirt or thereabouts. To sum up, Thailand weather is ideal...

What else do we know about Thailand weather? (Apart from the fact that you wear very little all day and night, keep the fan on when you sleep, and be careful about getting sunburnt quickly?) Well, we know that temperatures range from an average high of about 38C (100F) to a low of 18C (66F) and in March - April things start to warm up more than a lot of folks can handle!

You may have heard of the 'hot and sticky' season when the humidity is high, ominous rain clouds hover nearby, and you know that the monsoons are on their way. This is not as bad as you might think - you just need time to acclimatize yourself to the Thailand weather and let your body get used to it.

Another thing you might notice about the rainy season (the duration of the rainy season and the amount of rain vary substantially from region to region) is that some areas can flood fast. If you wake up after 3 days of heavy rain you might find some homes under water, roads have turned into rivers, and you can't even get to the department store anymore!

Many foreigners will come to Thailand and battle with the heat. There's no doubting that when you step out of the airplane you get slammed by an unseen blast of wild tropical heat. It literally knocks your socks off! You need to dress for it - lightweight clothing and footwear, maybe a hat, and drink lots of water to avoid dehydrating.

But like I say, you acclimatize fast, or at least, after a few weeks or months. Then the tropical heat becomes sort of normal... and anything under 30C is almost cold. :)

November and December mark the onset of the dry season and night temperatures on high ground can occasionally drop to a light frost. Temperatures begin to climb in January, and it starts to heat up again.

You'll find many of the Thai people will try to keep out of the heat in the middle of the day. The streets will almost be empty. However it's a lovely heat, full of healthy water particles and great for the skin. (Personally I LOVE it!)

As you'd know, Thailand shares boundaries with Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos and Myanmar. Neither China nor Vietnam border Thailand although the territories of both countries come within 100KM of Thailand. (Ie. They're close neighbors!)

I guess the bottom line is that you'll get a feel for the Thailand weather when you get to Thailand. Just remember to wear lightweight clothing, sweat free materials, the appropriate footwear for hot climates, and keep drinking those ice teas, ice coffees, or your choice of beverage! You'll have a wonderful time I guarantee it.
